The Wild Redhead

The Wild Redhead

The day after the prom, Anne felt very confident. She proved to herself that she could actually have the hottest boy in school. Tarek kept calling Anne, but she ignored him, she was bored, ready for the next adventure, and over Tarek. Throughout the week Anne and her father (a successful attorney) fought over her choice of major in university. Anne wanted to take a year off and figure out what she wanted for a career, but her father was determined to enroll her in law school.

After talking to her mother and sister, Anne decided to obey her father, under her own terms. Anne told her father, that she might love or hate law school, and so, she will try her best for one year and that he shouldn’t stand in her way if she chooses another major. Being daddy’s little girl, the deal was sealed with a bonus brand new Toyota Rav4.

Driving her new car and enjoying her new found independence, Anne had one unanswered question. She called Tarek and they both agreed on coffee at a cafĂ© in Hamra. During coffee, Tarek showered Anne with compliments and kept talking about how great prom night was, as she nodded her head and smiled. Then, she said it, loud and clear: “why do you like me Tarek?” The confused Tarek kept laughing and stuttering his words asking Anne what she meant. He finally answered, “I like you because you’re nice, you’re beautiful, and you have a big…huge heart” (while staring at Anne’s cleavage)! At that moment Anne realized that she was right, Tarek was a disposable airhead and he probably had a tiny…brain (referring to his –you know what-)!
On a sunny Thursday of that summer, Anne and Shadya were going back home from the beach. Anne felt a deep voice asking her to do something wild, daring, and adventuress. Flashing her boobs in public was out of the question, and smoking something illegal was out of reach, then suddenly there it was…A huge poster covering the window of this hairdresser. It was love at first sight…Anne walked in the store with Shadya, and asked the worker for the exact hairdo from the poster. Shadya was frightened, she tried to convince Anne to talk about it, but Anne was done talking as she was aching for action.

3 hours and $100 later, Anne was ready to conquer. She looked exactly the way she wanted to, and felt almost complete. Shadya’s jaw dropped 7 inches, but the shock was a positive one. As she walked outside the store, she felt like everyone was starring at her, she even imagined paparazzi and a huge crowd applaud, as if everyone on the streets wanted to be her or be with her... Anne is now a Redhead! Not a cute, innocent, country girl redhead; more like a fiery, fierce, Rihana gone wild redhead!
Her mother hated it, her father didn’t notice it, and Anne was obsessed with it! Anne felt flattered whenever someone called her crazy or daring, as she felt like she needed to do more and push the envelope even further. That summer was a crazy one for Anne, she met a lot of boys but had zero boyfriends, and she did absolutely anything she felt like doing.

One night Anne partied at a local night club. A Few of her friends where there, including her buddy Ahmad. The clubbing scene seemed ridiculous to Anne. It seemed like there are rules to be considered cool in the clubs. Alcohol is a must, but not just any kind of alcohol; if you drink a beer then you can’t handle hard liquor. If you drink vodka with orange juice, then you can’t handle hard liquor but you want to show that you can. If you drink vodka on the rocks then you can handle hard liquor but will most probably end up throwing up in the bathroom! The girls dressed up in skinny super tight super short clothing, and the boys flaunted their muscles wearing shirts extremely tight on the sleeves and unbuttoned down to their navel. The rich crowd would compete on who can buy the biggest bottle of Champagne, and the D.J. is considered the king of the world.

That night Anne danced like a party animal, drank like fish, and had her first sex dream!

The Butterfly and the Bee

The Butterfly and the Bee

Tonight was the night that Anne proves herself capable of attracting men, looking sexy, and walking in six inch heels. Even though entering the prom venue seemed wrong without her best friend, Shadya, still she was determined to the mission (the first kiss).

Shadya was raised by her single and strong mom that apposed a night out for Shadya and considered the graduation ceremony as “a good enough celebration”. Shadya cried herself to sleep that night even though she sounded careless while on the phone with Anne earlier. She felt that crying would expose her weakness to others, and deep down she wasn’t even able to trust her best friend enough to show her weakness. Anne knew how Shadya really felt, but she preferred to mock the prom bash saying that she wanted to go home and leave this lame party, in order to ease Shadya’s thoughts and maybe make her less sad and lonely (it didn’t really help).
Anne caught more attention than she had anticipated. The weirdest thing about that night was the way Ahmed was talking to her. He used a deep tone and lame catch lines as he winked. As Anne felt weirder with Ahmed’s attitude towards her, prince charming, Tarek, walked across and said Anne’s favorite word since the day before Christmas: “Hey!” Thanks to all those nights training in front of her bathroom mirror, Anne replied gracefully saying: “Hi!” Then, Tarek said the most unexpected, most exciting, and most exhilarating, complete sentence in Anne’s life: “Dance with me…”
As the D.J played Engelbert Humperdinck’s hit slow song “How I love” (a song you would hear at every wedding and during every slow dance at that time) Tarek and Anne danced… During their dance Tarek finally popped the question “Do you want to go for a ride with me?” Anne imagined balloons and sprinkles dropping from the ceiling as Toni Baroud (an enthusiastic Lebanese anchor) yelled: “Wel3eeettt….Shar2aaattt” which means “It’s on fire…” After 30 long seconds of trying to keep it together, she replied: “yeah…sure!”

There they were, sitting in the car overlooking the sea, and taking awkward long sighs, when suddenly Anne remembers that Tarek has a girlfriend. Anne felt confused and upset, she didn’t want to be the other girl, and she didn’t want to ask him and seem like she cares, and so she pretended that her leg hurts and then said: “it hurts so much, even though it’s just a little twitch; I can’t imagine how painful it must be to break your leg!”

Tarek:” Yes, indeed!”

Anne: “which reminds me of that poor girl from school...what’s her name?”

Tarek: “who?”

Anne: “You know that odd looking four eyed girl, with braces and black hair…I think her name is Sumaya…or Suraya…something like that…” Anne knew her name was Rana, but she wanted to sound as careless as possible.

Tarek: “I don’t know which one you’re talking about”
Anne: “Sure you do, you were standing with her during recess the other day...”

Tarek: “Me?? I don’t think so!”

Anne: “Well, yeah …I mean I don’t remember exactly...But am sure it was you…you were wearing blue shoes and a brown belt…I even heard someone say she was your girlfriend”

Then Tarek posed for a few seconds and said:”oh! You mean Rana?

Anne (carelessly): “Rana, Suraya, Souad…It’s all the same!”

Tarek (confused): “Well, she is not my girlfriend…but anyway what does that have to do with breaking you’re leg?”

Anne felt a deep sense of victory and satisfaction, and then said in a sarcastic, careless tone: “Never mind…were not going to sit here and talk about Sumaya all night”.

Tarek then laughed and said: “you’re unbelievable…you’re so funny!”

The shy Anne, smiled and said thank you, and then the next best thing happened.
Tarek held Anne’s hand, and used his other hand to softly touch her face as he came closer …and closer …and closer…and there it was…Anne’s first kiss! You know those scenes from romantic chick-flicks where the girl feels butterflies in her stomach as she kisses the man of her dreams, embraced between his strong arms as their lips move in perfect harmony? This was nothing like that! The seat-belt was choking her, there was too much saliva, and she couldn’t feel a single butterfly not even a bee!

The Devious Temptress

At age 18 Anne became a beautiful young woman who had fallen in love more than once already. The first time was at age 13 when she came across a phenomenon called Johnny Depp in a romantic chic-flick called “Chocolate”. The second time was at age 16 when she googled a place called Italy or what she called “wonderland”.
The third time was at Shadya’s house. The two were hiding in Shadya’s room, smoking and watching “Friends”, when suddenly the most amazing thing walks in the room.  Hussam, Shadya’s younger brother, was young awkward and hot for his age, and as he walked towards them he said to his sister with a rough voice and a shy approach:”here is the DVD you wanted…” Anne remembers that day as if it was yesterday, the day when her most profound love story took place, the moment when she found her better half, the DVD that started the never ending love story between Anne and the greatest band on earth: Led Zeppelin!
Even though Anne’s love stories didn’t include tangible men, she never felt the need to a fill a void, she never felt like she was incomplete or that she was missing a better half to become whole. Having said that, Anne felt a strong attraction towards someone in her senior year. He was tall, not so dark, but extremely handsome. She and Shadya would chase him around the school yard, whereas Anne and Tarek would exchange eye contact and occasional smiles when his girlfriend wasn’t around. He had a rough, deep, and manly voice and six packs that gave Anne six additional reasons for additional attraction.
On a day ahead of the Christmas vacation, Anne and Shadya finally found a reason to talk to the “The Jagal” (a Lebanese expression for Hunk), Tarek. Thinking that Christmas was a joyous holiday, the two decided to spread joy across the school, and so they did. They both circled around happy and gloomy schoolmates wishing them a Merry Christmas, in a very loud and extreme way, until they reached the ultimate commando.
As they came near Tarek, Shadya pushed Anne towards him and coughed out loud. There it was, the most awkward 30 seconds in Anne’s life. She stood there silently with wide eyes, red cheeks, and a smile larger than Texas, until Tarek Said: “Hey…”. Anne wanted to jump up and down until she landed on her knees yelling “Thank You Lord”, she even imagined rain pouring on her face; but instead she replied: “Hi, hey, Hello, Marhaba (the Lebanese Hi)!”
Tarek laughed, and said:”oh, I love you so much, I think you’re so funny, I have always wanted to talk to you… you’re so cute you remind me of my younger sister”.
Anne then drew a long face and started seeing stars in the sunny sky, for the conversation played in her head was different than the actual one, whereas according to her Tarek said: “I love you so much, bla bla bla bla bla …you are so cute…bla bla bla …marry me!”.
When she finally came back to reality Anne was standing alone outside school, she felt an annoying constant poke and a deep sound, which turned out to be Shadya calling her an idiot for behaving like a total bimbo!
That day, Anne went home with a level of confidence than the Empire State building, she thought to herself that she could actually have Tarek if she wanted to, and was determined to the mission. On prom night Anne felt the need to reveal the devious temptress inside of her. Since it was her first night out, she thought it was the perfect night to do everything for the first time, and so she did. Hair down, 6 inch heels, sexy make up…and a first kiss!

The Delicate Flower and the “New Bomb-Shell”

The age sixteen marked a new era for Anne. Her interests became different than that of her family’s and her mind was more shattered and confused than ever. She took refuge in American TV shows, and so she would stay in her room watching “Desperate Housewives” while her family enjoyed “Kalem EL Ness” in the living room.
As her interests grew, so did Anne’s “body-parts”. While walking home from the groceries store one day, Anne encountered her first male attention.  A stranger on the side walk yelled “Yo2borne Tizo”, (a common vulgar expression used by Lebanese street gigolos) as she walked by; which is Lebanese for: “I hope your butt buries me”!
The “vulgar compliment” made her feel embarrassed and flattered at the same time, a feeling that soon changed into disgusted as she heard it more often. Anne’s mother noticed the changes her body was going through and decided it was time to have “the young lady shopping spree” (It wasn’t really a shopping spree, they were on a 50$ budget). They both got dressed and went to a lingerie store where Anne got introduced to lace panties, G-strings, and push-up bras… After the 50$ shopping spree, Anne’s mother gave her “The mother-daughter femininity speech”. The next day Anne arrived to school tucked, pushed, and brain feed (ready to conquer the world)! She now understands how delicate her flower is (virginity), how important it is to keep it out of reach until “Ibn El 7alel” (the Arabian expression for prince charming) opens it.
Comparing her virginity to a delicate flower seemed ironic to Anne! She remembers the woman from the “bad movie” she watched at 2 in the morning, 2 years ago…she thought to herself: “Her flower seemed wide open rather than delicate”!
School wasn’t exactly Anne’s Disneyland; she had one guy friend and no girl-friends. While all the girls squeezed themselves in the 10m2 bathroom during recess, painting their facing and stuffing their bras; Anne would sneak a cigarette with Ahmed in the back window of the school’s hallway! She wasn’t exactly a “bad girl” she simply wasn’t interested in hanging out with the “airbrushed good girls”.
One morning, while Anne and Ahmed where adjusting to the overrated morning sunshine, Ahmed noticed a new girl. She was a tall brunette with a “J-lo” butt and an awkward edgy look. Ahmed hormones hit the roof as he convinced Anne to go talk to her and introduce the new bomb shell to him. Even though Anne felt aggravated while doing so, Shadya (the new bombshell) became Anne’s best friend…
